The Sustainable Condo first appeared as an exhibit at Globe 2004, an international environmental forum and trade show held every two years in Vancouver. It was designed by Busby + Associates Architects to showcase new technologies and strategies for sustainability that could be incorporated into future condominium developments. Penner & Associates furnished The Sustainable Condo to complement the modern aesthetic.
The Sustainable Condo was designed in terms of zones. Colour was used to reflect this with red accents in the nourishment and living zones, and neutrals with cool blue accents in the sleeping and cleansing zones.
Materials and products were chosen for their reduced environmental impacts. The selected furniture, artwork and accessories highlight the work of local artists, industrial designers and furniture makers. To optimize the efficiency of living within a smaller footprint a number of flexible features were incorporated.
