UBC Instructional Resource Centre Lobby
Vancouver BC
The Instructional Resource Centre at UBC is a multi-purpose space that serves as a student study area and occasional conference location. The design objective was to add a variety of fixed and flexible seating options for individual and group study, and to remedy existing problems of poor acoustics and inadequate light levels in the space.

Flexible seating areas create a Learning Commons. Studies have indicated that much learning happens in these areas as information received is discussed and digested.
